WORK WEEKEND
February, 2000
Photos by Mohabee, comments by Matrix

From "Activities" or "F.A.G" (Fun And Games) weekends came "Work Weekends." "Work Weekends" then became Work & Play Weekends." Realizing the that many visitors actually enjoyed helping out as well as just relaxing and enjoying Starland, the community initiated many programs to try and facilitate the different interests of visitors. Now at "Work & Play Weekends," visitors are allowed to stay for free and just donate a little of their time and effort. A meal and some light fare are provided, a ten dollar basic membership, and plenty of time to just relax are included as a thanks for visitors volunteer help.

Landscape & Organize
We had to "bring down" some dead pine trees that died from disease. Moises (mid) and Circa (right) hold on to ropes tied to the trees to pull them clear of damaging something while Kevin below chainsaws the tree at the trunk. Matrix (running) is seen getting the hell out of the way!

Circa, Moises, and Matrix pause before tackling the hard job of cutting and clearing tree branches and scrub.

Kevin, the good tree cutter... 'knows how to wield a chainsaw.

OK... a little break, Circa.

Meanwhile, Circa and Moises move scattered wood supplies from throughout the Starland homestead to a singular central location using Matrix's Stationwagon as a motorized caddy.

Moises neatly stacks the new wood pile to keep the boards straight while in storage.

The "Vista Arroyo" cabin started out with no electrical or insulation, but has a toilet and sink ready plumbing. Later, this cabin will be stocked with full electrical, insulation, painted and trimmed drywall, light fixtures, ceiling fan, toilet, and a cold-water sink.
