MEMORIAL TREE PLANTING
May 9, 2010
Work & Play Weekend

What was meant as a Memorial Tree planting for Sherwin ended up being a Laughing Boy memorial refurbishment...
Pics taken with Lobo Solo's little Blackberry phone camera.

At the Garden area ,the boys first try to figure out exactly where to plant the memorial tree for Sherwin, a departed friend. So far it was determined to plant the tree at the "Oasis Garden." Rich, Mohabee, and Kenny -a neighbor, muse of the destination.

HERE looks like a good spot.

But wait, there is already one memorial tree opposite side of the entry path to the garden... "how 'bout putting our new memorial tree in the planter on the opposite side of the existing memorial tree? So, just behind the small creosote bush in the foreground of the picture is the other tree planter opposite right of the existing tree. Both planters need a weeding as does part of the path, there are Palo Verde tree saplings trying to get a stronghold everywhere. The Oasis Garden is big, so we'll just focus on these parts. There's also a small tree stump and a large sapling in the new tree destination planter which has to be removed.

The "left" side memorial tree, you can see the weeds... and there used to be a stone with "Laughing Boy's" name painted on a stone at the base of the tree. This is a "before" picture.

After...
It took several hours to tear apart the rock borders of both planters and extract the desert weeds -ouch! there are a lot sticky spiky thorny prickly things that grow in the ground just for weeds alone in the desert, never mind the cacti. The Palo Verde saplings are thorny too! So, after I removed the bramble and cleaned up both planters, I reassembled the rock borders and used the small tree stump I extracted from the other planter and "planted" it upside-down Laughing Boy's memorial planter for an "artistic" effect -he would have liked that. I then crafted a new "memorial rock" for Laughing Boy with his Radical fEARIE name and birth name on it. There's still quite a bit of clean up that has to be done on the Oasis Garden everywhere else, but this is a good start.

This is supposed to show the cleaned up Laughing Boy memorial planter and these really naturally brilliantly colored smaller "gem rocks" setting on the forefront of the rock border, but damn the cell phone camera.

The upside-down tree stump suspending a dangling pedant over the new memorial stone.

Close up of the stone... reads...
"IN MEMORY OF LAUGHING BOY (Paul Madrigal)"

I will make an online memorial for Laughing Boy soon.

Sherwin's memorial tree planter, ready! But alas, the tree never arrived this weekend... though I toiled to remove the weeds, the large Palo Verde Sapling, the tree stump, and re-built the planter... woe is me. I'm certain Sherwin would understand
