LOBO SHED PROGRESS
June 20, 2010
Solo Lobo (Matrix) tries his hand at carpentry...
So far so good... the amazing thing is I'm using almost all old stored wood
that has been sitting at Starland for years under the sun and elements and wood
from other demolition jobs, basically recycling any wood scraps I could get my
hands on. Some of the wood is warped, dried or suffering dry-rot and shatters
easy. Of course I had to reject some of the wood as it just wouldn't accept
nails and would splinter into shards. I even re-used nails I pulled from other
wooden structures and re-straighten them as I re-used them. Can you guess, I'm on a
serious budget? I AM going to have to break down and buy a box of nails this
week, I'm out!
Finally! My "Dawgs" came out to help me. This is Marcus, our
best company guy, we work together in pool construction. On Saturday morning,
they (Marcus and Jay), came up to help me erect these two walls I built three
weekends ago. I just couldn't do it myself. I managed to build the walls square
and relatively straight though much of the wood is warped.
Side view -building is 15' by 8' and the rear wall is just
under two feet higher than the 8' front wall for the roof slant.
View from the other side. There's Jay and the rent-a-car. The
Starland house in the background.
Four beers later, a third wall frame is constructed inside the
structure and completed.
And the third wall goes up and is tacked in place... that's a rare pic of me, "the
Lobo."
Jay helps secure the wall.
Voila! Three sides are up.
Sunday morning, the fourth wall is built with a six foot wide
door frame.
Since this is a storage shed I decided that the entrance
should be a 6' wide double door. I used two 2x6's as the overhead beam of the
door frame.
Again, working by myself Sunday, I tried shoving the end piece
into position.
Did it! Everything lined up perfectly.
View from the inside.
Well... there it is, waiting for my next trip up.
Next will come some "stud stabilizers," exterior sheathing, and doors.
End of story
