SEPTIC FIX FOR THE VISTA ARROYO CABIN
The Vista Arroyo cabin had been out of commission for nearly one and a half years due to the cabin's disabled septic system. It is the only cabin with a built-in toilette and cold-water sink.
This "internal affairs" blurb is to demonstrate how Starland must handle repair, maintenance, and upgrade issues "on its own." There are no over-flowing monetary resource for many of these "maintenance issues" and so Starland must handle these issues "in-house" and by volunteers.
Here you see the back of the Vista Arroyo cabin and the
hole that was dug after finally finding the septic system that serves the
toilette and sink for this cabin. With the help of TailFeather ("the guide
behind the force") and the rest of the three of us; Steve -new Lobo and
Starland friend, Thad -First-time Work & Play Weekender, and myself (Lobo), we
excavated down five feet to the access hatch of the first chamber of the septic
system.
View from the cabin side of the excavation showing the
circular steel lid of the first camber of the septic system.
At left is the mat of roots that was pulled from the inside
of the pipe the leads into the septic chamber. The "root plug" was about three
feet long, reaching up into the pipe towards the water waste source. After
removing this root plug we tested the system for flow between the cabin and the
first septic chamber and the "leach field" percolation handling capabilities
-all tested out fine... a success!
Probably saved ourselves $300 plus?
The hearty crew; (left to right) Thad, Steve, and "TF."
THANKS GUYS!
Now the Vista Arroyo cabin is up and running.
